The ancient city of Varanasi or Banaras has inspired artists through generations. When I visited Varanasi I too fell in love with the city. The Ghats where new born's rituals and funeral rituals are performed side by side makes one feel a strange sense of detachment with the material world. Life is celebrated here along with death. The waters of the Ganges take different avatars during the day which varies from the calm and reflective to agitated and aggressive. But it never loses its mystic charm. Walking through the narrow lanes of the ancient city is also nothing less than a spiritual experience. A sense of detachment prevails here in Banaras.
